• Teachers newly certified on August 1, 2005 and thereafter
• Teachers who do not meet Highly Qualified Teacher requirements by other means (such as coursework or National Board Certification)
• Current practitioners who add new endorsements after August 1, 2005

 In addition, Praxis II Principles of Learning and Teaching tests must be taken by alternate route teachers who receive their first certificate on August 1, 2005 and thereafter.

 Praxis II content area tests range from one to three hours in length; the PLT tests are three hours long. Cost of each exam ranges from $60 to $85 plus a $35 registration fee.
