The American
Association of Teachers of French, Maine Chapter, is a non-profit
organization whose purpose is to serve the interests and needs of teachers
of French and the teaching of French at all levels of instruction, and to
foster interest in the French language, literature and culture. This
organization offers scholarships to both students and teachers and several
workshops and conferences throughout the year at local, regional, national
and international levels. |

ACTEM is the
statewide, non-profit professional association for those involved with
K-12 educational technology. ACTEM's purpose is to promote the
incorporation of computers and related technologies in the educational
process and to promote better communication among computer/educational
technology educators. Toward these ends, ACTEM sponsors the
MAINEducation Technology Conference each fall, meets quarterly,
publishes a quarterly newsletter, and recognizes up to two Educational
Technology Teachers of the Year with a monetary award. In addition, ACTEM pursues advantageous
software pricing opportunities for its members. |

The Association of
Teachers of Mathematics (ATOMIM) is a member-run, non-profit organization
which through the cooperative effort of individuals involved in
mathematics and mathematics education shall have as its purposes:
- to encourage
and assist in the improving of mathematics teaching.
- to facilitate
communications among teachers, administrators, and the community about
mathematics and mathematics learning.
- to promote
implementation of the NCTM Standards in an effort to build a
mathematically empowered population.
We sponsor at
least one conference a year, publish a newsletter, and distribute
information on state, regional and national math conferences. Funds are
available through a mini-grant program to our members. ATOMIM is
affiliated with ATMNE (Association of Teachers of Math in New England) and
NCTM (National Council of Teachers of Mathematics). |

The Business
Education Association of Maine is an organization comprised of both
secondary and post-secondary business and technology educators. There are
regularly scheduled meetings throughout the year. BEAM sponsors
scholarships, teachers’ workshops, regional and state student-skills
contests, a state-wide community service activity, and an annual two-day
conference for business educators. |

FLAME promotes the
study and use of world and classical languages in Maine. An umbrella
organization within which other language organizations participate and
pool resources, FLAME is affiliated nationally with organizations such as
the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign languages (ACTFL) and the
Joint National Committee on Languages (JNCL). FLAME holds conferences in
the fall and spring, conducts workshops, offers professional development
and networking assistance to teachers, and sponsors student contests. A
resource directory is published each fall, and newsletters are published
during the school year. |
